Unless you’re a taste tester at a chocolate factory, work inevitably is a series of unfulfilling tasks with the occasional highlight – if you’re lucky. Amongst the many pains you’ll likely have to contend with are annoying colleagues, mind numbing water cooler conversations and, of course, meetings about meetings about meetings.
So, before you drive yourself crazy reading email chains canvassing whether the canteen should stock whole wheat or rye, here are a few things to help keep you sane.
Be A Sun Seeker
Music is a great way to relax. Having headphones on is also the modern day version of a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign. It doesn’t matter if you’re into the classics or heavy metal, the point is it’s a way to surround yourself with something you like – even if you’re surrounded by people you don’t.
Get A Plant
Staying close to nature in an unnatural environment is proven to help reduce stress and anxiety and even improve output. Also, they’re low maintenance and you won’t have to take it for a walk every two to three hours.While pets are generally frowned upon in the workplace, you’ll more than likely get away with a desk plant.
They say and organized desk is a sign of an organized mind. And, it’s true. Knowing where things are is a simple and effective way to reduce irritation and stress at work. And, it’ll save you time. Efficiency isn’t just about getting things done, but getting them done in a smooth and pain free manner.
Sitting at a desk for eight hours simply isn’t what your body was designed for. All that tension gathers in your shoulders, neck and back and the resulting pain will make you irritable and short tempered. So, take regular breaks and stretch it out.You may look like an imbecile, but you’ll feel better for it.
